GravelGranada was created to bring together the gravel cycling community in the region and highlight the great opportunities Granada offers for gravel cycling by providing the community with numerous routes and photographs of notable places. Granada is a paradise for lovers of this modality and offers a great variety of landscapes and paths that intertwine to form fascinating and challenging routes. The diversity of landscapes and terrains, along with a vast network of paths and roads, makes Granada the ideal place for professional cyclists, enthusiasts and travelers.
Discover Granada on Gravel
Our passion is to discover and map routes that traverse the natural parks and lesser-known regions of Granada. Here, cyclists can immerse themselves in a unique natural environment, full of contrasts and beauty. We use agricultural paths and disused local roads that allow us to create routes capturing the essence of adventure and discovery. Always striving to offer alternative routes to the more common and busy ones, exploring the less-known parts of the province is a principle we proudly uphold.
Natural Parks and Notable Areas
Granada is home to some of the most impressive natural parks in Spain. Our routes often pass through these areas, but we also have routes in lesser-known regions:
Sierra de Huétor Natural Park: With its lush pine forests and varied fauna, it is a perfect place for gravel cycling. The paths meander through hills and valleys, offering spectacular views and an immersive experience in nature.
Sierra Nevada Natural Park: Home to the highest peak in the Iberian Peninsula, this park offers challenging and rewarding routes. Here, cyclists can pedal along paths that cross alpine landscapes, ancient glaciers, and picturesque villages like the Alpujarras.
Granada Geopark: A geological and scenic gem, its agricultural paths and dirt trails cross terrains shaped by erosion and time, offering a journey into the geological past of the region. Gravel routes in the geopark allow cyclists to discover unique rock formations, impressive ravines, and rich and varied biodiversity.
Sierra de Alhama, Tejeda, and Almijara: Like Huétor, it is almost entirely covered by pine forests, but its forest tracks run through large, steep walls and offer the most impressive views in Granada. From many of the peaks and tracks, we can see the coast of Granada. It requires preparation as the paths contain a lot of elevation gain. The Sierra de Alhama, like Sierra Gorda, represents the border between Málaga and Granada and contains numerous tracks for crossing from one province to another.
In addition to these parks, there are other notable areas such as Sierra Gorda, Sierra de Baza, Sierra de Lújar, Sierra de Albuñuelas, Los Guájares, Sierra de Arana, Sierra de Parapanda, Sierra de Castril, and areas of outstanding scenic interest like Puebla de Don Fabrique, El Temple, and the Guadahortuna region.
Connections and Routes
Granada is full of historical paths, livestock routes, forest tracks, and local roads that were once vital communication arteries but today, they offer tranquil and beautiful routes ideal for gravel cycling. Some of our favorite routes connect emblematic places such as:
From Granada to the Costa Tropical: Via the legendary Carretera de la Cabra, we can reach Costa Tropical, alternating between asphalt roads and forest tracks of surprising beauty. On its paved sections, it is common to encounter elite cyclists.
TransNevada: One of the most famous and international routes in Granada, this trail takes us through vast landscapes with wide-open views along tracks surrounded by pine forests. In the southern section, the tracks travel through the famous Alpujarras before returning to Granada.
